The movie theaters here in Mexico City are closed for the time being due to the pandemic. However temporary drive-in movie theaters have sprung up at various locations throughout the city. Alejandro received a free pass, so yesterday afternoon, he, his sister Sandra, his nephew Ezra and I piled into the car and we drove to "Hipódromo de las Américas", the city's premier thoroughbred race track. It is located near the city limits just beyond the ritzy neighborhood of Polanco.
In the parking lot of the race track, an LED movie screen, which makes watching movies possible during the daytime, was set up.
Face masks are required unless you keep your car windows shut. It was a hot day, and Alejandro did not want to shut the windows and have the car air-conditioning running for two hours. But of course we had to take our masks off to eat the snacks that we ordered.
Alejandro and I let Ezra and Sandra sit in the front seats so Ezra could see better, and Sandra wouldn't have to look around this big "gringo". The movie shown was "The Incredibles 2". I'm not a big fan of animated movies, and I wasn't to catch all of the dialogue in Spanish. Nevertheless it was a fun movie and an enjoyable experience. And it was the first time in my life that I had been to a drive-in movie!
