Yet Another Shopping Mall

In the United States, shopping malls are supposedly dying, but in Mexico new ones continue to be built.  I have written about "Parque Tepeyac", the brand-new mall that opened a short distance from where Alejandro lives.  Continuing just a couple more bus stops down the avenue, another new mall is currently under construction.  It will be called "Patio Martín Carrera" and is scheduled to be open by the end of this year.

Here is an artist's conception of what "Patio Martín Carrera" will look like when completed.

One has to wonder if the mall will be able to compete, when "Parque Tepeyac" is so close.  When the aquarium is opened, "Parque Tepeyac" is going to be more than just a shopping mall, but a visitor destination.  Perhaps this new mall will be able to carve out a niche for itself as a place where you can avoid the crowds that will be coming to the aquarium.

As far as transportation accessibility, this new "centro comercial" is well located.  It is at the intersection of two major avenues, at what is called a "centram", a public transportation hub where Metro, Metrobus and trolley bus lines all converge.  There are even some rumors that in the future this site will be the terminus for another "cablebus" (aerial transport) line.

It will be interesting to see how things play out for "Patio Martín Carrera".
