Onward to Mexico

After a layover in Houston of more than two hours, my flight to Mexico City left right on time.

We are up, up, and away.

Looking down on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
The breaking waves are a line of white along the beach.

After flying over the gulf for a while, we are now over Mexico, and we can see the snow-covered summit of Pico de Orizaba, Mexico's highest peak.

Lurking amid that line of clouds is the volcano Popocatépetl.
Its top is peeking just above the clouds, and it looks as if it is expelling a puff of smoke.

We pass over the air force base where President López Obrador has opened a new international airport for Mexico City.  The problem is that it is too far from the city, and there are not many airlines which want to use it.

Now we come to the vast urban sprawl of Mexico City.

The swath of green is Chapultepec Park.

On most of my flights into Mexico City we fly close to the World Trade Center (the blue skyscraper toward the bottom of the photo).
The condo that I rent is just a block from there.

We are moments from landing.  As you can see, the airport is in a densely populated area.

Mexico City greeted me with sunny skies and a temperature of 77 F.
Welcome to Mexico City!
