Sunday Dancing

Last Sunday Alejandro and I took a walk around the "colonia" of Nápoles where my apartment is located.  As we approached the neighborhood park we could hear music, and, sure enough a dance performance was being given in the open-air theatre.   There was a group doing modern dance which is not exactly my cup of tea.

After they were done, the announcer introduced a troupe that was going to do folkloric dances of Mexico.  All right!  THIS definitely IS my cup of tea!

The group did a long set of dances from various regions of the country.  Here are a few video clips from their performance.  While they were dancing, the heavens opened up and there was a downpour.  Fortunately we were under the roof of the pavilion.  However if you watch the last clip carefully you will see the rain falling at the back of the stage.  You will also notice that all the dancers wore facemasks.

Obviously, they were not as professional as the spectacular "Ballet Folklórico de México" which performs at the Palace of Fine Arts, but it was wonderful after my long absence to hear and see the joyous music and dance of Mexico once again.

After their performance another modern dance group took the stage.  Before long the rain had stopped, and we went on our way.
