An "Anti-Monument"

As I was walking along the Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City's most famous boulevard, I saw a small monument which was not there before.  It says "Migration is a human right."

I did not, however, understand the meaning of the "+72", so this morning I did a bit of research.  One article referred to it as an "anti-monument".  It was built last summer in memory of the 72 members of a migrant caravan from Honduras who were killed in 2010 on their way to the United States border.  This was only the most egregious case of Central American migrants who meet their death on the journey north.  No one has been brought to justice in the murder of those people.

On the opposite side of the "anti-monument" are the words "No one in the world is illegal".

Although the tragic event occurred on Mexican soil, it is, I am sure, not a coincidence that this memorial stands across the boulevard from the United States Embassy.
