One Stop Apartment Hunting

I have written in earlier posts that I am planning to live part-time in Mexico City, and I also wrote about the great opportunity for an apartment that fell into my lap shortly before my departure.

The vacation rental where I have been staying on my trips to Mexico City is great.  It has come to feel like a home away from home.  The price is reasonable... much cheaper than a hotel... but it is more expensive than a long term rental.  Its biggest drawback is that it has a tiny kitchen with a two burner stove and a refrigerator under the kitchen counter.  It's OK for fixing breakfast, but difficult for more ambitious cooking.  If I am staying here for longer periods of time, I do not want to go out to eat every night!

So it was that on this trip to Mexico City I was going to search for a more permanent place to call my part-time home.  Apartment hunting was a task that I was not looking forward to.  Then over the holidays a relative told me that she has friends who own a fully furnished, but unoccupied apartment in Mexico City.   I contacted them, and they are interested in renting their place to me.

Yesterday I went to see the apartment, and it is lovely.  I have already sent an email to the owners letting them know that I want to rent it beginning in April.

The apartment is located in the very nice neighborhood of Nápoles.  It is only a couple blocks away from the Mexico City World Trade Center.

Nápoles may be an upscale neighborhood, but every Sunday one of the streets is closed to traffic, and a traditional Mexican "tianguis" (open-air market) is set up.  It is literally steps away from the apartment, and it will be a great place for buying fruits and vegetables.

I hope these plans work out.  I am already excited by the prospect of my new home in Mexico City.

    1. It is a great apartment. I like the neighborhood, and I love the fact that each week there is an outdoor market practically next door.
