A Weekend at an Hacienda

As I said in my last post, Alejandro and I took off on an excursion outside of the city for the long weekend.  Last November we went to a colonial hacienda south of Mexico City that has been converted into a resort hotel.  This weekend we went to another hotel that was once an historic hacienda.  This one, Hacienda Galindo, is located a couple hours to the north of Mexico City in the state of Querétaro.

Both hotels are part of the Fiesta Americana chain, and Alejandro has points with Fiesta Americana that need to be used.  If you have been reading this blog for a while you might remember that in January of 2020, the last trip I took before the onset of the pandemic, we spent a weekend here.  We found the hotel so beautiful that we decided to return.

The hacienda dates back to the 16th century.  According to legend the land was given as a gift by the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés to his mistress "La Malinche".  It is debatable whether or not that is true, but the grandson of "La Malinche" is listed in records as an owner of the hacienda.  The estate flourished for centuries as a livestock ranch, but in the 20th century it was abandoned.  In the 1970s the estate was transformed into a resort hotel.

The hallways are filled with antiques and works of art that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

The hacienda chapel dates back to the 17th century.

In the next entry... a trip to one of Mexico's "magic towns' located just a few miles away from the hacienda.

    1. Mornings and nights are chilly here, but by the afternoon the temperatures are very pleasant. Although we didn't go in, the swimming pool is heated.
Be patient. I see that you are going to have a couple days in the 40s this week.
