At the small shopping mall down the street from the apartment, there used to be a restaurant called "Fondue Haus". It was pretty good, and we ate there a number of times. The place shut down not too long ago, and was replaced by another restaurant (which has become a frequent breakfast place for us).
Last weekend, we were on our way to a "taquería" for supper, but along the way we spotted a restaurant that had just opened. The place is called "Los Fondues". We looked at the menu and decided to skip the tacos and have fondue instead.
We ordered what they call the "Alpino" fondue. It was made with Emmental, Gruyere, and Tilsit cheeses and flavored with a bit of kirsch, cherry brandy. Two bowls of bread cubes were served, one of regular bread and the other of garlic bread. We immediately noticed that the quality of the bread here was better than at the old "Fondue Haus". The fondue itself was also very good. I have to admit that I have never had cheese fondue on my trips to Switzerland, but this tasted very authentic to me.
For dessert we ordered apple strudel. In Mexico I have never seen authentic strudel... and neither was this. But I have to say that even if it was not the real thing, it was the tastiest so-called strudel that I have had in Mexico.
The prices here are higher than they were at the "Fondue Haus", but the quality was definitely better. When we are in the mood for fondue, we know where to go!
