A Change in the Weather

October is the month when the rainy season is supposed to dwindle and by November give way to the dry season.  However, the month started just as rainy as September, with over four inches of rain in the first ten days... nearly twice the average rainfall for the entire month.  Last Friday, was a dreary day, and in my part of the city there was light rain much of the day.  But some parts of the city were hit with a downpour, and there was flooding once again. It wasn't until later that I realized that Mexico was hit simultaneously by a tropical storm and a hurricane.  Torrential rains resulted in widespread damage... nearly 100,000 homes... and at least 64 deaths in the states of Veracruz, Hidalgo and Puebla.

The next day, Saturday, was sunny without a trace of rain.  The dry weather continued Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday... the longest stretch without rain since perhaps June.  The forecast is calling for no precipitation all week.

I was at Alejandro's family's house on Monday, and at dawn the outlines of the volcanoes were visible at dawn from the roof.

Hopefully, last Friday's rain was a tragic finale to the rainy season.
