The Official Ending

Our nephew Ezra finished classes a couple weeks ago.  In fact, we already celebrated his graduation from junior high school with dinner at the Cheesecake Factory last week.  However, on Monday morning, the school held the official closing of the school year and farewell to the graduating class.

In Spanish, a graduating class is referred to as a "generación".

The students and their families were gathered in the patio of the school.

The program began with a precisely choreographed ceremony in which the honor guard from the graduating class marched in with the Mexican flag.

They then transferred the flag to the new honor guard of the next "generación".

After singing the national anthem, the program continued with several short speeches of farewell by the principal and students, the presentation of awards, and some musical numbers.  After it was over, everyone lingered to take photos... photos of students with family members, photos of the students with the principal and the teachers, and photos of classmates who may not see each other again since most will be going to different schools in September.  As this was going on, a recording of the song "Las Golondrinas" was playing over the loud speaker.  "Las Golondrinas" (The Swallows) is the traditional song of farewell, and thus it is traditional for Mexican graduations.
