The photo for July on my calendar is of the small archaeological site known as El Tepozteco.
El Tepozteco consists of one Aztec temple which was dedicated to Tepoztécatl, the god of the alcoholic beverage pulque. It is located in the state of Morelos, just to the south of Mexico City, and sits atop a mountain nearly 1200 feet above the town of Tepoztlán.
Many years ago, Alejandro and I took the 1.3 mile hike to the top of the mountain. The first part of the climb is easy with a stone staircase, but most of the way it is a rough path of loose rocks. It was a strenuous hike and coming down was scarier. I don't think that it is a climb that I will ever make again! You can read my old blog post about our trip to El Tepozteco HERE.
