"The Handmaid's Tale" is a TV adaptation of the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It tells the story of a theocratic dictatorship which has taken control of the United States in the near future. In this dystopian society women have no rights. They are not even allowed to read. Because of a crash in the birth rate, fertile woman serve as "handmaids", sexual slaves whose only purpose is to reproduce.

The series premiered in 2017, and although it aired on Hulu, I was able to get it on DVD discs through my Netflix subscription. I saw the first few seasons, but then Netflix stopped sending out discs. My friend Frank who used to housesit for me when I would travel to Mexico was a Hulu subscriber. He put Hulu on my TV set, and I was able to watch more episodes.
Then in 2023 came the permanent move to Mexico. Hulu does not exist down here. As far as I knew, there was no way to continue watching the series. The sixth and final season premiered earlier this year, and I am quite sure that I never saw the fifth season either. I might not have seen all of the fourth season either.
Alejandro has a subscription with Paramount+, and a few weeks ago he realized that "The Handmaid's Tale" is available on that streaming service. Of course, he had never seen any of the series, so we started at the beginning. It is so excellent that I do not mind watching the episodes over again. Every weekend we watch several episodes, and we are now on season 2.
It is a riveting tale... truly scarier than any horror movie... and more than ever it seems a cautionary tale for the future.
