Here is one last look at the artwork of Diego Rivera at the Dolores Olmedo Museum...

"The Family"  1934

"Head of a Woman from Tehuantepec"  1936

"Woman with Flowers"  1938

In 1955 Rivera, who had been diagnosed with cancer, traveled to the Soviet Union to seek treatment.

Dolores Olmedo invited the dying Rivera to spend time at her house in Acapulco.
Each day he would paint the sunset from the balcony of the house.

This is the last canvas completed by Rivera before his death in 1957.

  1. Rivera might be my favorite artist...he's definitely my favorite Mexican artist. I wasn't aware of his cancer diagnosis nor or his travels to Russia. I know he died of heart failure; I attributed that to too much drinking and hedonism.

    1. Good to hear from you Scott. Yes, Rivera is one of my favorites. However, being fond of landscapes, my favorite Mexican painter is José María Velasco. If Rivera had not died of heart failure, the cancer would soon have got him.
