I have mentioned that this summer the rainy season has been very rainy indeed. June saw above average precipitation, and July was even rainier. We ended up with about 14 inches of precipitation for the month... around twice the normal amount for July. To finish off the month, last night we had heavy rain with lots of lightning and thunder. An advisory was even issued for Alejandro's neighborhood.
Usually the rain comes in the late afternoon or evening, but this morning around 7:30 I thought I heard it raining. I went to the window, and, sure enough, it was.
It rained steadily for about a half hour. So August is already off to a rainy start. That's OK, though. I am not complaining. Last year, before the rainy season began, the lakes and reservoirs were running dry, and there was talk that Mexico City was going to run out of water. Last summer, we had abundant rain, and again this summer. The rains are replenishing the Cutzamala reservoir system which supplies the city with much of its water. However, monitoring and management of the system is still necessary. So, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!
