I have made my plane reservations to take a trip back to Ohio in June. I was able to find a first class, round-trip fare that, oddly enough, was less than the economy-plus fare.
I look forward to seeing many of my friends during the time that I am there, but the real purpose of the trip is to renew my Ohio driver's license which expires this year. Even though I do not drive in Mexico City, I still need a driver's license in order to rent a car on my visits to Ohio. My license does not expire for several months, but I am allowed to renew it early. The fly in the ointment is that Ohio has changed the procedure since the last time I renewed my license. You used to wait at the office of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and you were given your new license then and there. Now, however, the license is mailed to you from Columbus. The last time that I was in Ohio, I made some inquiries at the BMV, and they said that I can have the license mailed to the address of a friend. People that I have talked to have said that they received their license in nine or ten days. So, I am hopeful that if renew the first full day that I am in Ohio, it will arrive at my friend's house within the two week that I am there. Fingers crossed!
I am slightly nervous about going through immigration after flying into Houston. I can imagine the conversation with the immigration agent...
"Where are you coming from?"
"Mexico City."
"How long were you there?"
"Nineteen months."
"Hmmmm..."

Everyone is a bit uneasy flying these days. Does Duffy have any advice if you are asked difficult questions?
ReplyDeleteNo, I avoid topics like that with Duffy because it would set him off on another tirade.
