Opera Tickets

For many years, the Metropolitan Opera of New York City has presented simulcasts of some of their performances at movie theaters.  I can't say that I like ALL operas, but I do enjoy many of the standard classics by composers such as Verdi and Puccini.  I used to go to some of these simulcasts at a cinema in Ohio with a friend, who has since passed away.  I knew that the Met operas were broadcast internationally, and it dawned on me that I should check and see if they are shown here in Mexico City.  Indeed they are.  The simulcasts are presented at the National Auditorium located next to Chapultepec Park.  This year's season is almost over, but at the end of the month they are showing Rossini's "The Barber of Seville", a comic opera with quite a few familiar tunes.

I asked Alejandro if he would be interesting in going, and he said "yes".  So, last week I went to the National Auditorium to buy tickets.  It is easy to get there from the apartment.  I walked to the nearest subway stop at San Pedro de los Pinos, and from there it is just three stops down the line to the "Auditorio Nacional".

There are many events held at the auditorium.  They were advertising a "Galactic Concert" for that evening.  I assume it featured music from the Star Wars movies.

Later in the month, the Mexico City Ballet is presenting "Swan Lake".

And next month there will be a concert featuring a Chinese-American pianist by the name of Yuja Wang.

Not all the events at the auditorium are of classical music.  Most of the shows are concerts by popular Mexican rock and pop performers.

In front of the auditorium is a separate, small building which is the box office.  After a very short wait, I bought two tickets for the Metropolitan Opera simulcast.

I really should check the website of the "Auditorio Nacional" regularly to see if there are any events that we would like to see.
