Last night was a beautiful tropical evening, not too hot and not too cool (as it has been a few evenings when the "norte" blew through). Downtown Mérida was alive with activity. People were strolling the plaza and Calle 60 (which was closed to traffic), the sidewalk cafés were full of people, musicians were playing and the street vendors were out in force hawking their wares. We walked down to the "Sorbetería Colón" on the plaza. When we visited earlier in the week they didn't have my favorite flavor of sorbet... "mamey", a delicious tropical fruit... but this time they did. We all had "mamey" sorbet, and Nancy and Fred both liked it. We sat on the plaza for a while and "people-watched", then strolled down Calle 60, and ended up at the sidewalk café next to Peón Contreras Theater. We had a drink and a bite to eat and listened to my (and I think it would be safe to now say our) favorite local singer, Flavio.
Here are some pictures of this lively, lovely city at night...
Mamey? ¡No mames, guey! LOL.... Sorry. I couldn't resist.

Where we are virtually certain we can't get Mamey. Nor nopal, nor huitlacoche.
Glad you are enjoying the posts on Mérida. Hope you don't mind a blanket thanks for all your comments. They are much appreciated. It's been a long day, and we have an early day tomorrow.
