Each year as a part of the Day of the Dead celebration, the city sets up what they call a "Mega-Ofrenda" on the Zócalo, the main plaza. The theme of this year's "Mega-Ofrenda" was the foundation of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan (present-day Mexico City) seven hundred years ago. The plaza was filled with thousands of potted marigolds, figures of native animals, and giant skeletons in pre-Hispanic attire. I visited the Zócalo on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds.
It was a nice display, but there was no identification of what the figures were supposed to represent. So, without any explanation, here are photos of the 2025 "Mega-Ofrenda"...
