One last post on Guadalajara...
After our dinner, when we walked back to the hotel, we saw that a light and sound show was being projected onto the facade of the Cathedral. (I guess the modern terminology for this kind of show is projection mapping.) The show was ending just as we arrived, but we hung around and it was shown again a half hour later. The show dealt with the history of Guadalajara, although the audio was garbled, and I could not catch much of the narration.
We then returned to the hotel, packed our bags, and turned in early. We had to be up very early in the morning for our flight home. The reception desk had arranged for a driver to pick us up at 4:00 A.M. As it turned out, at that early hour, we were able to get to the airport quickly. But Guadalajara was to give us one more reason for not wanting to return. At 4:30 in the morning the airport was absolute chaos. Alejandro had already checked us in online, and we had our boarding passes. But in order to check in our suitcases, we had to wait in a ridiculously long line that snaked around the terminal. When we departed from Mexico City airport everything went so smoothly with no lines to wait in. So why was Mexico City International Airport, the busiest in the country, an airport which is at capacity, so much more efficient than Guadalajara???
Anyway, barring another family event which we have to attend, we have no plans to return to the once lovely, so-called "Pearl of the West".
