A Quick Report from Guadalajara

As I mentioned before, the purpose of our weekend trip to Guadalajara was to attend the first communion of two daughters of one of Alejandro's cousins who lives here.  The first communion was held at a small chapel in the hills outside of Guadalajara.  Shortly before noon Alejandro got an Uber.  It is fortunate that we left early, because it took over an hour to get there.  The party afterwards was held at a party center in the same vicinity, but not within walking distance.  Thank goodness, one of Alejandro's other cousins had rented a large van, almost like a bus, and there was room for us.  The party center was very nice with a garden, swimming pool, and a pavilion where dinner was served.  We were, however, out in "the sticks", so to speak, in an area of dirt roads.  The party did not break up until midnight.  Pedro, the cousin who had rented the van, transported those of us who were staying at downtown hotels, back to the city center.  Good thing, because I am sure that we would not have been able to get an Uber, or even a taxi, to take us back.  It was around 2 A.M. before we got back to our hotel.

It was a very enjoyable day.  I don't know yet what the plans are for today.  I know that tomorrow we will have to get up very, very, early because our flight back to Mexico City departs at 7 A.M.  I will post again when I have a chance.

  1. In most of Mexico Uber is not used. They are not allowed in SMA at all. That protects all our taxi drivers who we have all known forever.

    1. I have usually been a defender of the taxi driver over Uber. (I do not have an Uber app on my cell phone.) However, if you have a line of well over 100 people waiting for an authorized taxi, you either have to get more authorized taxis to service the airport, or you let Uber have a slice of the pie.
Of course, in the case of our late-night return from a party in a semi-rural area, there were no taxis or Ubers at all.
