"Gringo" Stay Home!

Last month "Herr Pendejo" visited Arizona where he touted the more than 200 miles of border wall that he has built.  In fact, during his three and a half years in office he has only built about three miles of wall where no barrier existed before.  The rest of those 200 miles consisted of repairs and renovations of the existing walls and fences.  He also boasted that the wall was keeping the coronavirus from entering the U.S. from Mexico.

Although the Mexican government has also handled the pandemic badly, the fact of the matter is that the Mexicans living in the northern border states have a lot more to fear from the U.S. than vice versa.  "Herr Pendejo" has spoken of Tijuana as being infested with coronavirus.  Although differing rates of testing make comparisons difficult, the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 people are much higher north the border in San Diego.  Texas, Arizona and California have seen enormous spikes in the number of virus cases.  Mexicans worry that asymptomatic "gringos" crossing to the south will result in similar spikes in the states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Sonora and Baja California.  The U.S. has closed the border to all "non-essential" crossings to the north by Mexicans, but Mexico still allows U.S. citizens and legal residents to cross to the south.  Every day hundreds of thousands of "gringos" cross the border for "non-essential" reasons.

Just before the 4th of July weekend, the governor of the state of Sonora, which borders Arizona, closed the border to U.S. tourists.  How ironic that the U.S. is becoming the pariah of the world.  The European Union has reopened for tourism, but they barred travelers from the United States.

  1. there are instances at the border crossings that "tourist visas" are being denied if those crossing cannot provide documentation that they have a home to go to......and, that there travel is "essential". Many who are driving in have been turned around! Mexico is on the list of not being allowed into EU as well. Every day seems to bring something else different to our existence. I am watching very, very little TV unless it is calm and not stressful.

    1. I just hope that you will not have to make a trip to Texas anytime in the foreseeable future.
