The Heat Is On

Mexico City may be within the Tropics, but in this high altitude city, anything over 80 degrees Fahrenheit is considered HOT!  Normally the hot months in Mexico City are April and May, but throughout the world it seems that normal weather no longer applies.  Following a pattern that we saw last year, the 80 degree days began in February.  On February 25th the mercury hit 80, and the high temperatures have remain there or higher every day since.  As you can see from the Weather Channel's long term forecast, the heat is going to continue.  (Thank goodness, I don't live in sea-level Mérida where the high today will hit 100.)

Even though it is still chilly in the wee hours of the morning, it has been warming up quickly.  I no longer need to put on a jacket when I leave the apartment in the morning.  The sun has been very intense.  The UV index has been listed as "extreme" each day, and when you walk from the shade to the sun, you feel the temperature go up by at least ten degrees.

But, hey, I'm not complaining.  I will take a few months of heat over the snow and cold up north!

You know we are in the hot part of the year when you see people getting soaking themselves in the fountains of Mexico City.
