Mexico City is an international metropolis. Although there is an abundance of all kinds of Mexican restaurants, there are also places offering cuisine from all over the world. Just a few blocks from the apartment there is an excellent Italian restaurant called "La Posta" where Alejandro and I have frequently eaten. However, a search on Google Maps showed that there is a new Italian restaurant called "Mangiatore" just on the other side of Insurgentes Avenue from us. So last week we decided to try it out.
We talked with the owner, and he told us that his restaurant had been open for just a month. He said they he strives to use the very best ingredients in his dishes.
We started off with "Sopa Toscana", a very nice soup with tomatoes, potatoes, onions, Italian sausage and kale. I like the "Sopa Toscana" at "Olive Garden" back in the U.S., but this had a much fresher taste.
Alejandro ordered "Spaghetti alla Routa", pasta in a white sauce made with brandy, cured bacon and truffles. The owner came out to prepare the spaghetti in a wheel of Gran Padana cheese.
Our old favorite "La Posta" now has some serious competition. Although "Mangiatore" may have a smaller menu, I would have to say that the food is superior in quality. It is definitely a great addition to the dining scene in our neighborhood!
