The Dominator

This week businesses began opening up again in Mexico.  According to Alejandro, the Mexican president López Obrador is under pressure from the "pendejo" north of the border to open factories to supply parts for U.S. auto makers.

López Obrador insists that they are dominating the virus, but it seems to me a very strange definition of "dominate".  The country is still on "red alert", and the statistics continue to look bleak.

Yesterday the number of new cases broke a record... 3891.  And the graph above does show today's new cases, which break that record with 3912.  The number of new deaths has jumped from 470 yesterday to a record 1092 today.

Mexico has risen to the 14th highest number of cases in the world.

From this layman's eyes it certainly doesn't look as if the curve is flattening.  And you have to remember that these are the "official" statistics.  The true numbers are much higher.  It has been the policy of the government to limit testing, and, according to Alejandro, of the people who test positive, only those who get sick are being listed in the statistics.

If this is what the government calls "dominating" the virus, I would hate to see what it would be like if the virus were out of control!
