Vaccinated at Last

(image from the internet)

It's been four months since I had the latest COVID shot shortly before making the move to Mexico.  However, no one in Alejandro's family was vaccinated with the newest shot.  All that was available here in Mexico were vaccines from Russia and Cuba that were old versions that did not protect against the new variants.

Cases of COVID are up again in Mexico, with some hospitals reportedly reaching capacity.  Alejandro and I have gone back to wearing masks when we take public transportation, and we are not the only ones.  You even see a few people wearing masks outdoors on the street, although that seems overly cautious.

Finally, at long last, the latest version of the Pfizer vaccine is available here.  Alejandro had to go to a pharmacy last Friday to pick up a prescription for his nephew who was sick with a bug.  (The doctor tested him, and he was negative for COVID.)  While at the drug store, he found out that they had the Pfizer vaccine.  He immediately went home and returned to the pharmacy with his dad to get the shot.  Since this was not sponsored by the government, they had to pay for the vaccine.

With the previous shots neither Alejandro nor his dad had ever suffered any reaction other than a slight soreness in the arm.  This time however, both of them felt rather ill and their arm was very sore.  Alejandro felt much better within 24 hours; his father took a little longer to recover.

I am glad that they were able to get their shots, even if it took so long before an effective vaccine was available.
