Last night we had a heavy thunderstorm. This morning I looked at the webcams of the volcano Popocatépetl, and, just as I had expected, the precipitation at that altitude had covered the mountain with snow. It may seem contradictory since this morning I wrote about the heat wave here in Mexico City. However, as I have said before, the weather in Mexico all depends on altitude. At more than 17,000 feet above sea level, the climate on the peak is wintery. Here in Mexico City, at an altitude of more than 7,000 feet, the temperature this afternoon is 82 F. In the city of Mérida, Yucatán, which is near sea level, the high temperatures for the coming week will range from 98 to 104 F.
