The Big Parade

As I said in the last post, on Saturday we found a good spot along the Paseo de la Reforma to watch the Day of the Dead parade.  The afternoon had started sunny, but as the parade time approached, the sky became overcast.  According to the forecast there was nearly a 50% chance of rain.  Alejandro and I both took umbrellas with us, and I guess that served as our insurance policy.  It never rained.

We were waiting by the Independence Monument, and the parade was to begin about 3/4 of a mile down the boulevard by the entrance to Chapultepec Park.  We stood for about two hours, although the time seemed to pass fairly quickly.  At last, the parade reached us.

The parade was colorful and festive. Our only disappointment was that it seemed to be shorter than the ones we had seen before.  It lasted less than one hour.  In the area where we were standing the crowd was not oppressively dense, and after the parade we even managed to leave the area without much difficulty.  Even though I really didn't want to see the parade again, I'm glad that I attended.  We will probably come back in future years.
