Yesterday, the day after Day of the Dead, I took the subway to the Zócalo. When I climbed the stairs and emerged into the daylight by Mexico City's main plaza, I saw that the city workers had not wasted any time in taking down the "mega-ofrenda". Barricades were set up around the entire Zócalo, and most of the holiday display was already gone. A large crane was there, probably to disassemble the last two giant "catrinas" which remained.
However, as I walked down Juárez Avenue, I saw that this building was still fully decorated for Day of the Dead / Halloween.
It's time for me to take down my "ofrenda" and decorations in the apartment and tuck them away until next year.
