As Alejandro and I were walking down his street, we saw a poinsettia in bloom.
However, this is not a little potted plant such as we see for sale in the stores north of the border at Christmas time. This poinsettia was a small tree around twelve feet high!
The poinsettia is, of course native to Mexico where it is called "flor de Nochebuena" (Christmas Eve flower).
What I have never understood is, that if you want your poinsettia to rebloom the next year, they say that the plant should be given 14 hours of absolute darkness for two months. This plant, and others that I have seen down here, is on a well-lit street, yet it manages to bloom.
