If you have read this blog for a while, you know that our favorite restaurant in Mexico City is "Angelopolitano", a place specializing in the cuisine of Puebla. Alejandro and I never made it there on my last trip, so on Saturday, after visiting the book fair in Chapultepec Park, we decided to go there for a late afternoon dinner.
As we arrived, we saw the owner / chef of the restaurant, Gerardo Quezadas. We have eaten at "Angelopolitano" for so many years that he knows us. He greeted us warmly, and we chatted for a while before taking a table outdoors.
As a result of the pandemic, the last few times that we have been there, the place seemed to be understaffed, and the service was a bit slow and erratic. However, this time, we were attended by a new waiter, and the service was excellent.
Although their signature dish is "chiles en nogada", my favorite, everything on the menu is superb. We were both in the mood for "mole".
We both began with the cream of "poblano" soup, garnished with camembert cheese and pecans and artfully decorated with "crema".
For his main course, Alejandro ordered the chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and apples and covered with blackberry "mole".
I had one of my other favorites, the chef's 19th century family recipe for "champandongo", layers of tortillas and chicken, covered in "mole poblano" and cream.
Another scrumptious dinner at our favorite restaurant!
