Alejandro and his family in Mexico City have been living the same sort of boring, depressing existence that I have been experiencing north of the border. Last weekend, for the first time since March, he, his sister Sandra, and his nephew Ezra took a family outing to see an exhibition called "Van Gogh Live".
The exhibit does not include any actual Van Gogh paintings, but is a multi-media presentation in which you are surrounded by projected images of the artist's masterpieces. The show opened shortly after I left Mexico in February of this year. It was going to run for several months, so Alejandro bought four tickets for the two of us as well as for Sandra and Ezra for when I was supposed to return in April. Of course that trip never occurred, and the show was temporarily suspended during the height of the pandemic. Alejandro was able to reschedule the tickets for a later date in early September when I was once again supposed to in Mexico. My August / September trip didn't happen either, but, in spite of the fact that Mexico City remains under an "orange alert", the show had reopened.
My ticket went unused, but Alejandro, Sandra and Ezra went last Saturday to "Van Gogh Live". It is held in a large tent-like structure in front of the Motherhood Monument on Insurgentes Avenue. The show has toured more than fifty cities around the world. Forty high definition projectors beam more than 3000 images on the walls and floor while classical music is synchronized with the display.
All visitors were required to wear masks and maintain a social distance from those not in their family group.
Here are some images which Alejandro sent me of their visit...
This is not an image of Van Gogh's famous painting of his room in Arles, France, but rather a three-dimensional, life-size recreation of the room.
Oh, I hope that comes to Cleveland!
ReplyDeleteThat would be cool, although I doubt that it would be presented at the Art Museum.
