Blue Skies

Except for the one day that the remnants of Hurricane Franklin passed by, the weather here in Mexico City has been very cooperative for sightseeing.  During the days it has been partly sunny until late afternoon when the clouds start to build up.  Although we have had some heavy rains and a hailstorm, these have occurred in the very late afternoon or in the evening.  There has been plenty of time to get out of the apartment and explore the city.  The daytime temperatures have been warm but not excessively hot.

The rains have had the beneficial effect of clearing out much of the air pollution.  On Sunday the skies were especially blue.  I took this picture from the home of Alejandro's family.

I climbed to the roof (most Mexican homes have a flat roof called an "azotea"), and hoped that I might get a view of the two volcanoes Popo and Izta which are usually obscured by the smog.  Unfortunately the clouds were building up in that direction and those mountains could not be seen.
