Another "Cablebus"

Last week when I went for lunch in the neighborhood of San Miguel Chapultepec, I passed by the terminus of the new "cablebus" route which is under construction.

There are already two "cablebus" routes in Mexico City.  Alejandro and I have ridden on them both, and I have written about them on the blog.  These aerial cable cars are a means of public transport in areas of the city that are otherwise difficult to access.  Line 1 goes up into the neighborhoods in the Guadalupe Mountains on the far north side of the city, while Line 2 crosses over the borough of Iztapalapa.

The new route will begin near the "Constituyentes" subway station at one of the entrances to Section 1 of Chapultepec Park.  It will cover a distance of over three miles.  The "cablebus" will connect all four sections of Chapultepec Park. (The rarely visited Sections 3 and 4 of the park will be more accessible.)  The western terminus will connect with the interurban train to the city of Toluca, about 40 miles to the southwest of Mexico City.

The "cablebus" was supposed to be completed last year, but now the opening has been pushed back to later this year.  (Fingers crossed.)  Construction on the interurban train to Toluca was begun in 2014 but faced many delays and setbacks.  The train line is also supposed to be completed this year, although I am not holding my breath.
