Last week, when I was walking down Madero Street in the "Centro Histórico", I noticed that a number of buildings were covered in scaffolding. I don't know if repair work is being done or if they are simply cleaning the facades.
The front of one of the city's most famous colonial mansions, the "House of Tiles" (now the flagship restaurant of the Sanborns chain) was covered.
However, you can still appreciate the 18th century tile work on the side and the rear of the building.
Farther down Madero Street, two other buildings were similarly covered.
On the next block over, on Cinco de Mayo Street, part of the front of the old "Banco de México" building had scaffolding.
On the Zócalo, there is some sort of work going on with the central portion of the facade of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
There were several workers up there on the scaffolding. It is definitely not a job that I would want to have!
