Delivery at Last

You may remember that way back in November Alejandro and I bought a new washer / dryer combo for the apartment.  The washing machine was still working, but the dryer was temperamental and wouldn't heat up half the time.  The dryer had been repaired once before, so when it started acting up again, we decided it was time to buy a new appliance.

During the "Buen Fin" in November, the Mexican equivalent of "Black Friday", we went to Sears and bought a new combo.  (A side-by-side washer and dryer won't fit in the laundry room.)  They said that it would be delivered the first week of December.  Yeah, right.  Finally, they called and told us that it would be delivered on Wednesday, January 3rd.  I was at Alejandro's family's house, but Alejandro and I went to the apartment on Tuesday to take the old washer / dryer out of the laundry room.  We had to remove the door from the laundry room in order to get it out.  We set it in the middle of the kitchen.

Since delivery men in Mexico do not remove the old appliance, it will be sitting there until Alejandro can arrange to have someone haul it away.

The delivery on Wednesday was supposed to occur between 3 PM and 6PM.  Alejandro and I left the house and arrived at the apartment around 2:30. We waited... and waited.  Finally, just a few minutes before 6, the delivery men called to say that they were on their way.  Fortunately, they were able to bring the washer / dryer up in the elevator.  They removed it from the box and took it into the laundry room.

Delivery men in Mexico do not do the installation.  We have to arrange an appointment for that.  They took off and left the box and the packing material in the apartment.  Alejandro left the apartment for a few minutes, and I started tearing the box into pieces to put in the dumpster.  I had a little more than one side of the box torn up when Alejandro returned.  He said to me, "Didn't you understand what the guys said?  We have to leave the box in case the washer / dryer doesn't work when the man comes to install it."  So, we dragged what was left of the box and the packing materials to the corner of the dining area where the laundry room door is also leaning against the wall.

The two of us then walked over to Sears to make an appointment for the installation.  No one is available until Monday... sometime on Monday.  They will call that morning to give us a time.  So, I am going to have to live for a while with the disaster area in the apartment.
