After the walking tour that we took, since we were already in the Roma neighborhood, we decided to go to our favorite restaurant, Angelopolitano.
I started with fideos (noodles) in a broth of beans and chipotle, garnished with cream, cotija cheese and avocado,
Alejandro had roasted tomato soup garnished with a garlic bread crouton and goat cheese.
In addition to their usual dishes from the cuisine of Puebla, the menu is currently featuring an "Enchilada Fest". There are a variety of different dishes that include "enchiladas" (which have a sauce made from chile peppers) and their culinary cousins, "enfrijoladas" (with a bean sauce), "enmoladas" (covered with "mole") and "enjitomatadas" (with tomato sauce).
I selected the enchiladas filled with "cochinita" (the traditional roast pork from Yucatán) with a sauce of "chile xcatic". "Xcatic" is a pepper native to the Yucatán which is not as incendiary as the more famous pepper from Yucatán, the "habanero". The enchiladas were delicious!
Alejandro ordered chicken enchiladas with a sauce made from chipotle peppers and "piloncillo". ("Piloncillo" is a type of Mexican brown sugar.) I had a taste of his sauce and it was very different but very delicious.
"Angelopolitano" never fails. We had yet another wonderful meal!
