The New York Times recently featured a review of a book about the rise of Adolf Hitler. As I was reading it, I thought that if you replaced "Germany" with "America," and "Hitler" with "Trump," it would have read like a pretty apt description of contemporary politics in the US. (The thought of him being this close to the presidency is terrifying.)
In my lifetime I have never seen a Presidential campaign as scary or as insane as this one. Every time that Trump would narrow the lead or go ahead in the polls, I would be depressed and seriously consider moving to Mexico (even though their political system is a mess too). It looks as if his campaign has finally crashed. But I am still embarrassed for our country that 40% of our populace could even consider voting for that demagogue.
