What Is Going On?

Frequently I take a look at the webcams of Mexico City and marvel at how empty the city of over 20 million people is.  It seems, thank goodness, that many people are finally taking the pandemic seriously and staying at home.

However, this morning when I looked at the webcam of the Zócalo, the city's main plaza, there was a small crowd of people, which you can see in the lower right hand corner of the picture.

From the chanting which I could hear on the webcam's audio, it was obviously a protest group, but it could not make out what they were shouting.  They eventually made their way around the plaza to the National Palace, the long building silhouetted across the horizon, and disappeared into the shadows. Their chants, however, became more vociferous. I have no idea what the protest was all about, but they were quite angry.  Compared to the massive protests that often gather on the Zócalo or march along the Paseo de la Reforma, this group was miniscule.  But it was still a crowd that was definitely not practicing social distancing... not a good idea where the number of government confirmed virus cases rises daily (now 855 cases in Mexico City), and where the number of unreported cases is surely much higher.
