Today, February 2nd, is the feast day of "La Candelaria" (Candlemas in English). For some reason it is tradition to eat tamales on this day.
However, on any day of the year, in Mexico City you are likely to hear the recorded chant of the vendor selling tamales as he pedals his bicycle down the street.
"Acérquese y pida sus ricos tamales oaxaqueños."
Come and ask for your deilicious Oaxacan tamales.
Now if you will excuse me, I am going out to have some tamales for lunch!
Who got the baby Jesus and had to make the tamales this year?
ReplyDeleteI didn't get the baby Jesus at Alejandro's house. However, that weekend we went to a party at the home of one of Alejandro's friends. He served a "rosca" and there were several figurines in the bread. I and a couple of other people got the Baby Jesus. But since the friend was not hosting a party on February 2nd, we were off the hook.
