A Seasonal Meal

After watching the parade last Saturday, we headed back to a restaurant not far from the apartment, a place called Seis28 which specializes in the cuisine of Yucatán.  We always come here during the Day of the Dead season because they serve a dish called "mucbipollo" that is traditional for this season.

The dish is an enormous "tamal"... corn meal filled with chicken.  It is wrapped in a banana leaf, and in the rural villages of Yucatán it is baked in a pit.  The name comes from the Mayan word "to bury".

The waiter comes out to unwrap the "mucbipollo" and divide it between us.  It is served with frijoles, and a mild red sauce is poured over it.

¡Delicioso!
