A Sad Day

I am in a state of depression and disbelief.

At least in 2016 I could say to Mexicans, "The majority of the people in the United States did not vote for that man."  But this time he has won not just Electoral College but the popular vote as well.

I am ashamed and disgusted that a majority of the voters in the U.S. voted for a lying, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, treasonous, demented felon.  It is a very poor reflection on the people of my country.

I truly fear for my country and for the world.

  1. Chuck and I are happy for you, though. You saw the writing on the wall and got outta here. I think we were too optimistic that this couldn't happen again. And as a woman, I am just sick to my stomach that a very qualified woman couldn't beat this guy. If a woman can't beat the least qualified candidate in history, then I don't think a woman will ever be president of the US. I can't deal with this kind of misogyny.

    1. Nevertheless, I am still very depressed over what is happening to our country, and I have never been so ashamed of it. Politically speaking, things are not so great in Mexico, even if they have their first woman President. Alejandro jokes that we should move to Switzerland, herd cows and make cheese.

  2. I agree with you 100%! I cannot wrap my head around the fact that there were enough people in this country willing to put this criminal in office not just once but twice. I am pretty sure you are not the only person who is sad and depressed over this disgraceful outcome! :-(

    1. All of my friends back home in Ohio are in a deep funk over this. One is even planning on leaving the country. Happily, I am already out of the country, but I am sure that this is going to have ramifications all over the world.

  3. There is a rumor floating that Biden will resign soon and Harris will become the first female President. She will transition the Office to Trump in January....can't wait for that to happen!

  4. While I knew that consumer dissatisfaction over continuing high prices would make this a tough race for the Democrats, I still thought Kamala Harris would squeak by. Instead, Trump won in a friggin' landslide!

At this point, all I can do is hope his presidency won't be as bad as I fear it will be. What's worse, you and I both know he won't just quietly step down at the end of his term in January, 2029. No, I think he's here to stay.

    1. I really doubt that he will live to serve out his term. Of else it his dementia will reach the point that it can no longer be ignored. But then we have Vance assuming control which is just as horrific.

    2. It's an ugly cycle, really. Trump will screw everything up, so the Democrats will beat him in 2028 (not that he'll go quietly). Then, it'll take the Dems so long to fix his mess that voters will lose patience and vote in another Republican in 2032. Kinda like what happened with this year's election.

      Ugh.
