If you have read this blog for any length of time, you know that I am a sucker for Mexican handicrafts. I was downtown in a rather nice handicraft shop located near the National Museum of Art. I had just purchased a small gift for someone back home when I saw this piece of pottery on the shelf...
I have seen pieces like this a few times. In fact, earlier on this trip, I wrote that I had seen a piece similar to this, but I didn't buy it because I didn't want to carry it around with me all day.
The clay pot, which is from the state of Chiapas, has jaguars all around it. The heads are three-dimensional, and the tails serve as handles. This one was slightly smaller than the one I had seen before. I was done with my sightseeing for the day, and from here I was going to head back to the apartment. So, why not? I bought it!
Love it! Great choice. I have never seen that work in yellow!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen something like this perhaps three times before. Those have always been in yellow or orange.
