Art Education

I have mentioned before that the names of the streets in each "colonia" or neighborhood have a theme.  In my neighborhood all the streets are named after states or cities in the United States.  Nearby streets are named "Filadelfia", "Nueva York" and "Pensilvania".  There is even a short street named "Ohio".

If I head south of here the streets are named after European artists.  You will find "Leonardo da Vinci", "Miguel Angel" (Michelangelo), "Rembrandt" and "Caravaggio" among others.  Unless you are really into art history some of the names are rather obscure... "Berruguete", a Spanish artist whose paintings are considered a transition from the Gothic to the Renaissance style, or "Larguilliere", a French portrait painter of the Rococo style.  (I had to look those two names up on Google.)

While walking around that area, I noticed a couple of plaques on the street corners.  Apparently on each of the streets there is a short biography of the painter after whom the street is named.  You could get a course in art education just by walking around the neighborhood!
