It's time to turn the page to the month of June, and here is the painting which I chose for the calendar that I made...
I was not able to find very much on the internet about the 19th century Mexican painter, Manuel Serrano. You would think that there would be more biographical information on him, since some of his paintings have sold for more than $100,000 at auction. He was born in 1814 and died in 1883 and is classified as a "costumbrista" painter. That is, he painted scenes of the customs of his country.
In this landscape Chapultepec Castle is shown on a hill in the distance in a rural setting. Mexico City in those days was some distance away. Today the skyscrapers of the Paseo de la Reforma march right up to the entrance to Chapultepec Park.
