Mexican Postal Service Revisited

Last month, during my recent trip to Mexico City, I wrote that I sent a postcard to my cousin up here in Ohio.  I did it as an experiment to see how long it would take for my cousin to receive it.  I sent the card on November 13th.  Yesterday, December 18th, it finally arrived in the mail.  That's 35 days to deliver a postcard!  You can see why many years ago I gave up on sending anything to or from Mexico via the postal service.

  1. We sent several postcards from Yucatan in March 2008 and they arrived in August, of course that was to the Frozen. North of the border!

    1. Well, it seems that 35 days for a postcard to arrive was quick compared to what you experienced.
Thanks for visiting my blog, and for taking the time to comment.

  2. This makes one wonder what exactly they are doing with that card for 35 days. Because once it's in the hands of the US Postal Service, they don't have it for more than a few days.

It's a good thing they've got email in Mexico too!

    1. Indeed, it would be interesting to track the postcard. I will not say that the U.S. Postal Service is necessarily blameless. I once sent a Christmas card (right after Thanksgiving)to Alejandro's cousin in Texas, and he received it long after the holidays. However, I have had enough bad experiences with sending things to or from Mexico, that I really have no trust in the mail there.

    2. I thought I remembered reading that you do sometimes ship packages home to yourself from Mexico. What company do you use for that?

    3. I would go to a private company and they would pack everything and ship it via UPS or DHL.
