Where's the Rain?

I really thought that this weekend we would be bringing out the umbrellas again as Hurricane Beryl continued its path.  Protected amid the mountains of central Mexico, Mexico City never feels the brunt of any hurricanes, but we often get heavy rain from the fringes of storms.

However, we have, and will continue to have all weekend, blue skies and sunshine.  It's a welcome break from the much-needed rain that we experienced for the last couple of weeks.

After Beryl crossed the Yucatán Peninsula, we assumed that it would then cross the Gulf, pick up steam, and hit Mexico again, perhaps along the Gulf coast of the state of Veracruz or Tamaulipas.  But the storm veered a bit to the north, and it is now expected to hit the coast of Texas by Monday.

When Beryl hit the Yucatán it quickly lost strength as it crossed the peninsula.  We have friends who live in Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán.  They were expecting the worst, but they didn't even get that much rain.  They sent us this funny picture...
