Song and Dance

Street musicians are a common sight in Mexico City.  Last week, when I went to the Historic Center, I saw this young man playing the "quena", a flute typical of the Andean countries of South America.

Other performers, usually jugglers, will do their act in the middle of the street while traffic is stopped at a red light.  Before the light changes, they then hope to collect a few pesos from the motorists.  Last weekend, Alejandro and I were walking through the neighborhood of Colonia del Valle, when we saw something different.  Several young people were taking turns dancing in the street to recorded folk music.  They had a sign explaining that they were trying to raise money to study dance.
