Day of the Kings

Today is "el Día de los Reyes"... the Day of the Kings, known here as Epiphany.  This is the day when children in Mexico receive presents from the three Magi kings.

Just as children up here go to the shopping malls to see Santa Claus, in Mexico the children go to see the kings.  Here is Alejandro's nephew Ezra visiting the "Reyes Magos".

It used to be that children would write a letter to the kings, tie it to a balloon and let it fly away.  Now however, with awareness of the ecological damage that all those balloons do, the children are encouraged to send their letter either by email or "snail mail".

Ezra, sweet kid that he is, said that the kings did not have to bring him any presents, because Santa Claus had already brought him a gift on Christmas Eve.  Needless to say, the kings rewarded his unselfishness with numerous gifts!

And later this month, he will receive more presents when a certain "gringo" arrives in Mexico City!
