Montezuma died during the Conquest and was succeeded by his brother Cuitláhuac. Cuitláhuac only ruled for 80 days. He probably succumbed to smallpox which the Spanish had brought. I lived at the corner of the first and last Aztecan gods, Cuitlahuac and Cuahtemoc.
